Meet Henry Gates
Fenway Studios is a residence for artists. Since 1905, it has been continuously occupied; now a Federal
landmark for being the oldest such establishment. Now a cooperative, artists lease their space from FSI;
owning their shares, according to size. 210 is the smallest; all being illuminated northlight with 10’ windows.
Here am I in June 19th 2016, after two years of paintings, as I gradually retired from clinical psychology.
I took these first two years to paint in the French tradition, starting with Chardin (three: top on wall), and
working my way through to Picasso revisions (1/10th changed). In the third year, I did shift to painting
Christian art and beginning with my ‘Triune’ compositions. I did close the studio after this third year, taking
two years to complete the writing of ‘BEING in TIME’ (historical fiction about a woman in 17th century NE).
I returned in June of 2019, for three years of art called ‘Theosense’.
Our JULY blog is meant to introduce you to my web-site created for the art made at Fenway ‘Studio 210’
for Theosense. ‘Art in Faith. Symbols. Creative Modern Art’ says in Home and Gallery this phrase:
“We recognize divinity by our gifts through visual arts in elevating materials by color, form and prayers”.
My methodology is suggested above; in that we begin with materials (our Sensation), to explore color (Feelings)
to evoke form (Thinking), and realize prayer/meditation/ insight (Intuition). In ‘Meet Henry’, I involve these methods
as full time Active artist; and from retired Minister and Psychologist (I do not credit these in my Vita-resume): ARP .
In my art and vocation, I believe in the ‘deep tradition of sharing faith, tradition and values; to manifest both
the Image and Word of God’. .I’ve found the tendency is to avert the Image of God for the Word of God. But
it is beneficial to use art media for cultivation of religious meaning, with adults as well as children. My Vita-resume
shows how’I’ve practiced in Fine Art over my lifetime; listings as Education/ Employment/Exposition/ Exhibition.
You shall see at the end of this website, there is ‘Previous Art’. CLAYART indicates that I did own and operate
a slab and slip clay studio at 300 Summer street in Boston for nine years. This vigorous and practical art media
is a whole other discussion. Also, you will soon see my pastel art, which in the 1980’s was called MESAART.
I continue to practice with pastels, having began Portrait art for the year of 1981-2; and is a major event still in
Studio 210, 30 Ipswich street in Boston. Meanwhile you can Contact Me, and visit me in Studio 210.
Follow me monthly for ‘show&tell’ of the art from ‘Art in Faith. Symbols. Creative Modern Art’.
